Sustainable production

An ecosystem approach

Valtra hosts industry and academic discussions with customers, service providers, and manufacturers to ensure conversations around sustainability are focused on the farmer.

Lowering carbon emissions

At Valtra, we are constantly working to lower greenhouse gas emissions, reduce energy use, and improve the carbon footprint of our productions. Our tractor factory in Suolahti, Finland, is one of AGCO's most sustainable facilities.

Over the years we have taken several steps to reduce our carbon footprint. This has included lowering our inbound carbon emissions, improving efficiencies, and using renewable energy sources.

97% lower emissions

We are fast approaching the status of being a zero-emissions factory having reduced our emissions by 97% from 2017 to 2022.

17% less inbound CO2

We work closely with our supply chain, sourcing components as locally as possible. This has contributed to an overall reduction in incoming CO2 of 17% since 2018.

12 240 tons of CO2 saved

We have been using Neste My renewable diesel for over five years. This has saved 4 000 000 litres of fossil diesel and prevented 12 240 tons of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere. That's the equivalent of taking 4735 diesel cars from our roads.

Sustainable energy

We have taken several steps to lower our energy consumption and move towards using more sustainable energy sources. Since 2022 Valtra's Suolahti tractor factory has been run on 100% renewable energy.

100% renewable since 2022

Our factory uses 100% renewable energy from wind, water, and bio-based sources. We have installed solar panels on the Suolahti factory roof, and all our forklift trucks run on either renewably produced electricity or Neste My renewable diesel.

Over 17% energy reduction

Through the use of state-of-the-art technology and careful monitoring of our energy use, we have been able to reduce our energy consumption by 17.8% from 2018 to 2022.

Sustainable material management

Through careful management of our incoming and waste materials, we have identified ways in which we can recycle more, and waste less.

Over 80% of waste recycled

Throughout our processes, waste materials are carefully sorted and sent for recycling. In 2022 81% of all waste at our factory was recycled.

0% landfill since 2016

Careful waste management is something that Valtra has been doing for a long time. Since 2016 we have not sent any of our waste materials to landfill.

More than 90% recyclable

We use 90% recyclable materials in our tractors, so even at the end of the tractor's usable lifecycle, we can be sure that as much is reusable as possible. Our environmental impact is assessed with VTT (the Finnish National research centre)
