Transmissions

Valtra tractors on field

Valtra transmissions are designed to help you work long days productively and efficiently.

Valtra tractors offer you a range of transmission and hydraulic options that allow you to perform tasks precisely, comfortably and with maximum available power.

Smooth direction changes

The smooth and precise electrohydraulic forward-reverse shuttle improves productivity when frequent direction changes are required, as in front-loader tasks.

For added safety and comfort, the shuttle also features an integrated parking brake, which is engaged automatically when the shuttle switch is in P mode or when the engine is turned off. Selecting a driving direction releases the parking brake, so it cannot be left on by mistake.

Clutchless shifting

Valtra's  HiTech 4/5/6, Active and Versu powershift transmissions have no gear levers and even the manual changing is done by pushing a button, making your work more efficient. Similarly, the HiShift feature on our "gear lever" models in the A and F Series allows manual gear changes without pressing the clutch pedal, reducing the strain on your clutch leg and foot.

Four work areas ensure power even at slower speeds

Work areas let you optimise the efficiency of the engine and transmission, allowing you to drive more economically. Each of the four work areas begins from zero and offers stepless speed adjustment. You can also work as efficiently in reverse as you can forwards.

Note that all work areas have lower top speeds on 40 km/h transmissions than on 50 km/h transmissions.

Work area A

  • Heavy pulling / special crops
  • 0-9 km/h
  • For the heaviest jobs, like low-speed tillage or special crop harvesting.
  • Ideal when high pulling power is needed continuously, or when precise speed adjustments are needed.
  • Extremely high pulling power with PTO-driven trailers.

Work area B

  • Field work
  • 0-18 km/h
  • Universal field work range
  • Ideal from seeding and faster tillage up to different forage operations.
  • Easy control of different operations (like harvesting speeds).
  • Also suitable for transporting in the forest.

Work area C

  • Fast working
  • 0-27 km/h
  • Ideal when transporting in field conditions.
  • Suitable for many municipality applications.
  • Efficient starting with heavy loads.

Work area D

  • Road transport
  • 0-50 km/h
  • Ideal for road transport at high speeds.

Automatic or manual operating mode

Automatic mode is optimal for most operations in the field and on the road. It uses the highest possible transmission ratio to optimise fuel use.

Manual mode can be selected in work areas A and B. The transmission ratio is controlled solely by the driver using the CVT lever. Manual mode is suitable especially for harvesting tasks that require specific speeds for different conditions and crops.

Flexible settings for different working conditions

AGCO CVT
in
Q and S series

A TRUSTED TRANSMISSION

The overall efficiency of the Valtra Q and S Series is further enhanced by the continous variable transmission (AGCO CVT).

AGCO's continously variable transmission ML260 has been the European market leader among big tractors for years. Its popularity is based on its versatility and, above all, its fuel efficiency. This is especially true in contracting work that requires a lot of driving between locations. The AGCO CVT enables efficient driving at low engine speeds.

Valtra CVT automode

AUTOMATIC MODE

Automatic mode is the default setting when starting the engine. The operating principle is simple: automatic mode uses the highest possible transmission ratio to optimise fuel economy. For example, when pulling a load in difficult terrain, the transmission adjusts the ratio (engine speed) to maintain a constant ground speed. This can be adjusted by the droop setting, whether fuel saving or ultimate efficiency are needed.

Valtra CVT manualmode

MANUAL MODE

When you want to control both the ground speed and the engine speed precisely, you can select manual mode. Then the drive lever sets the transmission ratio and accelerator pedal sets engine speed.
