Powershift transmission (Versu, Advance and HiTech tractors)

Power Control
Valtra’s Power Control system offers unlimited possibilities for tractor operators.
On HiTech and Advance models, Valtra’s unique Power Control system controls transmission and PTO operations. The system selects the best engagement of the forward-reverse shuttle, HiShift buttoncontrolled clutch, Powershift gears and PTO every time whatever the situation. The system also protects the transmission against excessive or accidental misuse:
- The forward-reverse shuttle does not operate at speeds over 10 km/h.
- The handbrake cannot be engaged at speeds over 2 km/h.
Benefits to the driver from the Power Control system:
Forward-reverse shuttle
Driving directions can be switched using the shuttle lever without having to use the clutch. The transition is always smooth and fast, regardless of the load. The shuttle lever also controls the handbrake. The lever can also be located on the right on the steering column.
Auto 1 and Auto 2 programmes
The benefits of the Powershift transmission are realised best in work that requires a lot of shifting. The Powershift transmission can be operated either manually or by using one of two automatic programmes. The Auto 1 and Auto 2 programmes change gear automatically when engine speed goes above or falls below the preset rpm.
Auto 1
By selecting Auto 1 with the rocker switch, the Power Control system will automatically change the Powershift gears during work. The system will choose the correct gear to gain the best performance based on the engines optimum output and torque characteristics. This automatic programme is designed for both field and road work. The automatic selection also work when reducing speed and features a kick-down function. Auto 1 is ideal for field work, PTO work and transporting loads.
Auto 2
In Auto 2 the Power Control system will change gear either up or down according to the conditions preset by the operator. For specific work conditions the operator can set the engine revs at which the Powershift will change to maintain the engine revs at the level chosen by the operator. Auto 2 highlights the productive and efficient combination of tractor and implements.
Kick down function
Both Auto 1 and Auto 2 feature a kickdown function similar to the system found on cars. When the accelerator pedal is pressed down fast, the system will temporarily shift down to a lower gear if necessary. The kick-down function also works when braking.
AutoTraction
AutoTraction is greatly appreciated by Valtra tractor drivers. It is ideal for stop -start operations such as loading, baling, headland turning, transport and verge trimming. How AutoTraction works:
- when the tractor is in gear or the shuttle is engaged and the revs fall below 1100 rpm, the tractor will not move
- when the revs rise above 1100 rpm, the clutch is engaged automatically and the tractor pulls away
- when the revs fall below 1100 rpm, the clutch is released automatically and the tractor stops
- when the operator presses the brakes when the revs are below 1100 rpm or forward speed is less than 10 km/h, the clutch is released and the tractor stops
- when the brake pedal is released, the clutch engages and the tractor moves off according to the engine speed
Automatic four-wheel-drive
Valtra’s 4WD system prevents wheel spin and soil damage. The system also automatically engages four-wheel-drive for around one second (adjustable by the operator) when moving off from rest, changing gears, using HiShift or changing directions. The system may be deactivated if required. Both the four-wheel-drive system and differential lock may be controlled manually or automatically (on-off-automatic).
Differential lock
The differential lock can be switched on manually when required or used in the automatic mode. The automatic differential lock measures the speed difference between the right rear wheel and transmission. It is engaged if
- the speed difference is excessive
- the wheel slip is excessive
- the steering system is close to the centre (not turning).
- the brake pedals are not in use
The lock is released as soon as the wheel slip has been reduced sufficiently, the steering angle is over set value or the clutch/brake pedal is used.
The automatic differential lock system offers many benefits for the driver:
- increased efficiency
- no need to think about 4WD or diff. lock
- they are only used when required
- not possible to forget they are engaged
- provides optimum traction
- wheel slip can be monitored on the instrument panel (option)
- avoid soil compaction
