Valtra increases purchases from Turkey

15.11.2007

In 2003 Valtra and Turkish company Hema Endüstri signed a licensing agreement regarding the production of Valtra A Series tractors for the Turkish market.

Deliveries have been made since the beginning of 2006. The licensing agreement also provides Valtra with a new source for purchasing components. In addition, Hattat Tarim, another Hattat Holding Company is responsible for manufacturing of Valtra A Series and marketing Valtra tractors in Turkey.

Turkey is one of the world’s largest single tractor markets with annual sales of over 30,000 units. In less than five years Hattat Tarim has sold 2300 Valtra tractors in Turkey.

“We have found a partner who has sufficient resources to supply us with quality components. We intend to increase our purchases from Turkey, as we are satisfied with our co-operation. Furthermore, Hattat Tarim has made Turkey a major new market for Valtra,” states Jari Rautjärvi, Managing Director of Valtra.

Now, with the “Contract Manufacturing Agreement” signed, Valtra has possibility to source A Series tractors from Hattat Tarim in 2008.

Hema Endüstri, a sister company of Hattat Tarim supplies Valtra with gearboxes for A Series tractors and individual powertrain parts. Other components that are manufactured by Hema are used in the assembly of the tractors under Valtra licence, which are currently being tested at the Suolahti factory. Gearboxes for the A Series were previously supplied by Valtra do Brasil.

Hema is one of the leading component manufacturers in Turkey, supplying automotive steering gears under license from TRW and ZF, braking systems under license from Conti-Teves, and hydraulics and powertrain components for the automotive and agricultural machinery industries in Turkey and for exports to Europe and the USA. In addition, the company manufacturers landing gear components for Airbus. Hema’s main clients include Ford, Fiat, Renault, CAT-Perkins Engines, Iveco, CNH, John Deere, DBH_Textron, MAN and Mercedes. Approximately 60 percent of the company’s production is exported directly. The company was founded in 1973, it employs 2600 personnel, and it has annual net sales of approximately EUR 400 million.

Hema’s production facilities are situated in Cerkezköy on the European side of Turkey, around 90 kilometres from Istanbul. The company began manufacturing Valtra A Series tractors in 2006 and has thus far produced 800 units.
