New products launched to press in Finland

23.10.2008

During the second week of October, some 150 machinery journalists descended on Finland. The first venue was AGCO’s engine plant at Linnavuori followed by a trip to join colleagues at Vanajan Linna, a Hämeenlinna manor house, for the presentation of new models by Valtra.

Some 150 international journalists attended the Valtra launch event of the Direct and Versu models, and completely new S Series.

At Linnavuori, the development team’s latest unit was unveiled - a unique seven cylinder 9.8 litre engine in the 400 to 500 hp sector targeted at the world-wide off road market. The additional cylinder provides 20% more capacity with a corresponding increase in power and torque.

Also explained were the company’s future thoughts on development – including Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), a system that offers effective emission control while significantly improving fuel economy. Simply explained, urea, in the form of AdBlue™, is injected into the exhaust gasses to react with Nitrous Oxide in the catalyst and effectively convert the treated gasses into nitrogen and water.

Martin Richenhagen also announced AGCO’s joint venture with Concern Tractor Plants of Russia. This will allow CTP to build and sell Sisu Power engines throughout Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Finally there was the change in business name from SisuDiesel to AGCO SISU POWER, a move that underlines the importance of this independent division both within AGCO and also the world wide engine market.

Journalists then moved on to Vanajan Linna for the Valtra presentation. A dance ensemble instigated proceedings, their performance building to a crescendo with flaming torches, symbolising the power of the new machines. Valtra is expanding the N and T Series with the addition of Direct models featuring a continuously variable transmission, and Versu models featuring a five speed multi-step powershift transmission. Also introduced was the new S Series of five models from 270 to 370 hp. S Series is important as it allows Valtra and Valtra dealers to offer larger farmers and contractors a complete line-up from high to low powered machines and thus operate a common-make fleet.

After the press event the Versu and Direct models, as well as completely new S Series, were introduced to 1200 Valtra dealers during the third week of October.
